Brimstone and fire over Sodom and Gomorrah.

“Then the Lord Yahweh rained on Sodom and on Gomorrah brimstone and fire…and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew on the ground.”

(Genesis 19:24-25)

This destruction is a bible prophecy as well––as we shall see––where God was showing the world a trial and judgment of fire falling from heaven itself in apocalyptic magnitudes, documenting for us about it is not an impossible thing; and even if some theologians––desiring to gain favor with science––keep and have tried to demonstrate this sulfur-generating activity was the direct product of volcanoes in the area.

Dear reader, there are no volcanoes in the area of the Dead Sea where were located the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and poor man the one who under fear of being in some sort of misery––reaches a greater one––by distorting the Word of God (Rev 22:18).

When this happened and with certainty it was such a great spectacle the whole family of the patriarch Abraham had witnessed, by finding them in the city of Hebron, and not so far from where this terrible catastrophe occurred.

What happened in Sodom and Gomorrah was a symbolism or prophecy of what will happen on this planet and its wickedness in the days and months leading up to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ (Rev 16:17-21, 19:11-15).

Other cities came to be and are in evilness, political and social brutalities, crimes in times of peace and war, vices and immoralities, the same or worse than Sodom and Gomorrah (Ez 16:46, 49-50; Lm 4:6; Is 1:10-11, 3:9); nevertheless, Sodom and its surrounding districts were destroyed by fire and not with water, fulfilling the covenant God had made with Noah (9:9-17). God always keeps and fulfills his word, never forget it.

In this case the destruction came from the sky with fire as it will happen in the near future, at the End of Time, in “which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (2 Pet 3:10, 12). One day when God will judge all flesh with fire and many will be in flames (Is 65:15-16) together with the third of all forests and green grass on the planet, without escaping the sea, and due to much fire falling down (Rev 8:7-8; 11:19).

The burning––although this time on a global scale––will be so similar and fulminating that Jesus Christ himself compared the destruction and judgment to Sodom and Gomorrah, when prophesying toward the future he said: “But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Lk 17:29-30, Mt 10:15, Mr 6:11).

The city of Sodom was located in the southwest of today Dead Sea, and Hebron––where the patriarch Abraham lived at the time––was located northeast of the lake, but not that far. It has been found in the area remains of fortifications, pottery and relics, all signaling the existence of a thriving city that was abruptly destroyed, as shown by discoveries made in an expedition led by Dr. W. F. Albright in 1924, including deposits of salt and sulfur, as narrates the biblical story, which specify that Lot’s wife turned into salt and that much hot sulfur rained over the city.

This is a clear and terrible sample, confirmed by the prophets in the Holy Scriptures, when they made it clear that in the coming foretold judgment, the destruction will not only be produced by thermonuclear power of the nation’s armies, but also directly from the sky with blazing fire and grief ever seen in the history of mankind (Mt 24:21). Read author's book entitled: 'Revelation of Saint John.
