The Sun of Justice will shine forever.

“For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven… but to you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise…”

(Malachi 4:1-6)

The prophet Malachi is the last one of the Old Testament, followed by a great silence and darkness in the history of God’s people until the Light of the Lord came to Bethlehem, and the world shuddered beginning its countdown. From a small town the sayings of Jesus have spread worldwide. He never went to college, but millions in all nations sing, write, worship, revere and await his Advent, promised by the Divine Verb: omniscient, omnipotent creator of life on this little planet that is in turn a dotty in the vast physical universe.

Malachi exerted his closing prophetic ministry approximately around 450 BC, a generation after the prophets Haggai and Zechariah. The Hebrew people had grown tired about the hypocrisy of their religious leaders and away from God’s Law they had forgotten supporting those ministers in the Temple, and the prophet commends them to bring their tithes; nevertheless, this was not enough, the damage was widespread, although not justified.

Curiously, the name Malachi means ‘my messenger.’ It was he who announced the Lord’s forerunner John the Baptist. He speaks of God’s love without ignoring the Final Judgment. And how to ignore such warnings from the Creator while trying to sympathize and get along with the listeners? His book, like all prophets in general is not compiled chronologically; thus I will explain in the order he did leave it to posterity, and given that we have already discussed them before.

Final Judgment:

“Behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, said the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch” (4:1). Prior to the Coming of Christ, Yahweh God will destroy the evil deeds of this world with fire, according to the revelation given here to the prophet and confirmed by the Holy Scriptures in time (2 Pet 3:10, 12); trampling evil, which is made ashes under the soles of his followers (4:3). The victory of the Lamb of God and his faithful and chosen is depicted as strong, forceful, and definitive (Rev 17:14).

“But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap” (3:2). Malachi prophesied this nearly 2,500 years ago; however today, in 2012, when we are already very close to that day, we ask you dear reader: Are you ready to stand firm when the Divine Christ manifests with great power and glory? Do you believe him deep in your heart or simple get some kind of emotion?

He is omniscient, and his majesty covers beyond the physical world we know. Have you noticed how many galaxies and stars form the physical world? There are billions; albeit it is revealed to be a small part of existence, only the material creation. Do not forget that the Messiah of God said: “He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God stays on him” (Jn 3:36).

Coming of the Lord and establishment of his Millenarian Kingdom:

The Messiah Son will come and establish the Eternal Kingdom promised by his Father (Dn 7:13-14), beginning with his reign of a thousand years (Rev 20:4-6). The prophet Malachi also foretells it by announcing: “For from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles… for my name shall be great among the heathen, said the Lord of hosts” (1:11). Everybody will worship the Creator through his beloved Son Jesus... “for I am a great King… and my name is dreadful among the heathen” (1:14).

Then there will be a people of God having being his “Jewels” (3:16-18), serving and delivering justice in every corner of the planet to every creature. It will be a Millennium of peace, justice, and unimaginable blessings, and that is why the prophet Malachi tells us that “unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall” (4:2). Amen!

Jesus, John the Baptist and angel of the covenant:

The prophet foretells centuries before it happened, the future coming into this world of three very important and decisive beings within the Plan of God, and thus––at the End––establish the one much awaited and promised Everlasting Righteousness.

A-... “my messenger”: this is St. John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Lord Jesus Christ, in charge of preparing the way before him (Mt 3:1-6).

B-... “the Lord”: refers here to the Messiah Son Christ Jesus, who would come to the Temple of Jerusalem (Mt 21:9-14).

C-... “the messenger [angel] of the covenant;” is the archangel who ensured the compliance with this important part of God’s plan. The archangel Gabriel (Lk 1:19, 26) whom we see talking to the virgin Mary, and took over him the weight and responsibility during the events of those days, although we do not doubt being there the archangel Michael (Dn 10:13, 12:1)––who assumes parts in the course of the events related to Jewish nation––and other angels as well (Lk 2:13-15) have made substantial efforts not revealed to us in the Holy Bible; as is the case of Moses and Elijah (Mt 17:3).
