Two sacrifices: a Baptist calf and a Redeemer lamb.

“…and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands on the head of the bullock. And you shall kill the bullock… by the door of the tabernacle… without the camp… and you shall take his blood, and sprinkle it round about on the altar… it is a burnt offering… it is a sweet smell… Then shall you kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and on the tip of the right ear of his sons, and on the thumb of their right hand, and on the great toe of their right foot…”

(Exodus 29:10-11, 14-18, 20)

In the ritual two animals were sacrificed––with a detailed purpose––which were different: a bullock or calf and a lamb (ram), grown among the people carrying the Word of God.

The two (bullock and ram) represent the work of Jesus Christ, atoned for the sins of a converted humanity––on the Cross of Golgotha––where inclusively, and as in the last minute, a delinquent/offender converts next to him by begging for mercy and forgiveness, using it the Holy Spirit as a spokesman for the culminating event that––now close to be witnessed in history––shall happen; and here foretold when he asked the Redeemer: “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom” (Lk 23:39-43).

In this ritual are seeing the calf and the lamb: both dead by the will of Israel’s priests; nevertheless, the calf off the field, Tabernacle and people, and the lamb on the altar, among ‘his’ people, and in view of their priests.

Fifteen hundred years later John the Baptist was beheaded––symbolizing the bullock or calf––off the field and Temple, while Jews imprisoned him by Herod the tetrarch’s command (Lk 3:19-20); that is to say, John the Baptist (Is 40:3; Malq 3:1, 4:5; Mt 3:3-6), whom Christ explicitly called: the greatest among men who walked on the planet (Mt 11:11-12), was killed and decapitated his head off the cross, while in prison (Mr 6:16-28); and the first before Jesus, as here in the ritual when the calf precedes the death of the lamb symbolizing the Lamb of God: Yeshua of Nazareth.

The lamb then symbolized Christ Jesus who was sacrificed as a burnt offering on the altar of the Cross, a human one for the Son of man; and as specified in the quote here: like a sweet smell, an offering dedicated to God’s Plan (Ex 29:18). A holocaust of redemption and eternal life (Heb 10:1-12). The priests were also smeared with blood in their right ears and hands, thus unconsciously revealing a simple rite: that Christ, the Lamb of God, is seated at the solid right hand of his Holy Father, Creator of heaven and earth (Rev 5:6-13).

In the two sacrifices––representing one same prophecy––coincide that together the sons of Aaron, for both the calf and the lamb, they should put their hands over their heads at the time of the holocaust; this way indicating about the Jewish people would be the one approving such assassinations (John the Baptist and Jesus Christ) one thousand and five hundred years later.

Both sacrifices in turn pointed to an exquisite and dainty work of reconciliation and service. The atonement in the ritual was to consecrate the children of God in the service of the Tabernacle and work of Yahweh God; and that is just what Christ did on the Cross of Calvary, giving himself totally, and with his resurrection consecrated Christians as sons of the Almighty God for service as future kings and priests of the Lamb (Rev 20:6).
