Three men, a Son.

“When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant… I stayed in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water… And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord Yahweh gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.”

(Deuteronomy 9:9, 11)

Why did Moses spent 40 days and not 15, 18 or 20 days? It was only after the forty days and nights without food or drink, that God gave him the essence of the commandments collected in ten basic laws (Dt 5:21) which have traveled the world. Why?

Because in addition to all it entitles,  was a prophetic symbolism of what would happen 1550 years later (Mt 4:1-2) when Christ Jesus spent forty days and nights without food or drink, and only after that time elapsed, and he had remembered through the Holy Spirit his true essence, position, pre-incarnation and assigned mission by his Heavenly Father: God of life, then suffered diabolical temptation and from there we see as he received the commandments and miraculous powers to begin his ministry that would take him to the Cross and subsequent resurrection as eternal triumph over death; and thus the pronounced words by the apostle Paul in regard to the final resurrection, the direct product of Jesus’ victory over sin:

“So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?” (1 Cor 15:54-55).

Moses is a symbolism of the Messiah and whom not only he knew personally, but millennia later he appeared to Jesus instructing him what would be his way to Golgotha (Mt 17:1-3), showing the similarity of both in regard historical location. Moses was a symbolic representation of the future Jesus bringing the people of God from bondage under Egypt’s Pharaoh, and Christ whom God set to free people from the bondage of sin and death forever.

The two witnesses (Rev 11:3-4, 10) which shall preach and testify in Jerusalem at the End of Time will carry the spirit of Moses and Elijah (Lk 9:29-31). Does this mean they will be the same persons? We’ll see. The truth is that Elijah did not see physical death, as is the custom of humans, but like Enoch (Gn 5:24) he was raised up in a celestial chariot to heaven (2 Kgs 2:8-15); and we see also Moses––in Jesus time––speaking to him in person (Mr 9:2-4). Christ later, while recalling the liberator and lawgiver of the Hebrew people, said that God was not to dead creatures but of the living ones; hinting that Moses lived and was aware of the unfolding events.

It is important to remember that Christ is the Verb of God (Jn 1:1, 14-18) and it was he who gave him the holy law to Moses, along with the Ten Commandments. It is that law the one that gives knowledge to creatures about sin and therefore the need for a Savior; which finally would crush the head of the devil by defeating him in the cross as prophesied to Eve in the Garden of Eden (Gn 3:15) at the beginning of Creation; and is the same Jesus who––though not recognized by Israel––was watching them on their way through the wilderness (1 Cor 10:2-4).

Moses received the legislative law of commandments of which centuries after the Divine Son said: “For truly I say to you: till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5:18-19).

Pay attention those who teach that the law of commandments is obsolete and disposable. Only the ritual law (Eph 2:3; Heb9:1) and not the one of commandments was abolished, because God is not mutable and is holy (Rom 7:12). That is why God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their sins, but in such reconciliation is where the creature is forgiven so he/she could be by His grace, a dutiful achiever of the holy precept (1 Cor 5:19).
