The Great Battle of Al-Megiddo (Part One).

There was a Hebrew prophet who was forced into exile from his early life of being 11 years old, about 597 BC. He prophesied for twenty years about world events which one day would bring tears to many people, starting with the—then near—destruction of the Temple and the city of Jerusalem by the hordes of the Babylonian empire, a fact subsequently happened in 586 BC.

Centuries later there was a further reconstruction of the Temple that would be destroyed again by the hands of the Rome’s Imperial Army in 70 AD; in our Era, as finally history reveals to us in its beating ceremony of the centuries, under the Roman emperor Vespasian and his son Titus. This had been prophesied in turn by Jesus when he emphasized that in this historic area of Jerusalem it would not be left one stone upon another.

This great prophet narrated in detail many of these facts and announced since then that at the End of Times, just before the human race is approaching the intersection where is dramatically met with the Creator of heaven and earth, the Jewish Temple would be rebuilt again a third time on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, near where now sits the Muslim monument Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa mosque. The Dome of the Rock was in turn built between 690 and 692 of our Era. We know that as the Jews are preparing for this event and many of the tools to be used in the Temple now have been redesigned and built.

Today our world march immersed in a new scientific and technical revolution; and this, stepping aside, it was also prophesied 2500 years ago by the prophet Daniel when the Archangel Michael affirmed to him that at the end of time technology was going to take a huge leap: “But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be multiplied” (Daniel 12:4).

Undoubtedly we live in exceptional times.

When the prophet Ezekiel announced in his book the prophecies in chapters 38 and 39 he was going forward to about over 2500 years later in the story, that is, the history we live in today. This great Battle of Al-Megiddo will happen in the land of Israel, around the first quarter of our century, apparently not further of a decade or more from now I write (2011) to you. It shall affect one way or another every country around the globe. Will we call it the ‘Third World War?’ That I leave it to you my friend. The important thing is to wake up and know that the world is not composed only of parties and funerals, but there is a whole spiritual world that concerns us and which directly affects our lives in the face of the days we walk on our earth and the eternity that lies ahead. In this we also see an echo of the plagues described in the biblical book of Revelation, chapter 6, verses 12 to 17, and in which the apostle Matthew in his Gospel tells us to be “great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Mt 24:21).

Why we assure that it will be a world war not occurred up till today? Let’s consider first the nations that will participate in the ‘Third World War,’ if you agree thus calling it from now. For this we first must do a bit of biblical history.

Let us return to the book of Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39. Here in the basic passage the prophet Ezekiel prophesies to us on the nations that at the end of time will take part in the ‘Third World War’ of modern times. They are Gog, Magog, Meshech and Tubal (chapters 38:2-3, 14-18, 39:1-6, 11), which can be found also in Genesis 10:2 as direct descendants of Noah’s son called Japheth, who in turn later was the inhabitant of the planet’s northern Europe over the centuries.

Meshech and Tubal have also been identified as regions in southern Russia where they are now Georgia and Azerbaijan, which together with the Russian Federation were part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) bordering with Turkey, so they are bound to each other. In chapter 38:15 the prophet Ezekiel specifies that Gog does not come alone: “And you shall come from your place out of the north parts, you, and many people with you…a great company, and a mighty army.”

In chapter 38:6 which shows Gomer and Togarmah, also descendants of Japheth (Gen. 10:3), Ezekiel states that they are peoples from the north, so we’ll include the son of Japheth Magog, Russia, the principality of Gog and its associated kindred. If detailing Gomer, for example, we see that Ashkenaz (Genesis 10:3) is one of its children or descendants, well, Ashkenaz is today’s Germany, a country that now has great economic power, being the center in the European Union, and even Jews from there are called Ashkenazis.

Looking at chapter 38:5 we see Persia (the Iran that now tirelessly seek a nuclear arsenal), Ethiopia (Kush) and Libya (Put), the nations descendants from Noah’s son Shem (Gen. 10:22) and the other child called Ham (Gn 10:6-8); that is to say, Asia Minor and Central Africa. It has also Mizraim as a descendant, which is today Egypt (Gen. 50:11) and Caphtorim, the present island of Crete with its surroundings, from which came the famous Philistines mentioned in the sacred history as the people that later settled in Canaan, the land of today’s Palestine (Jer 47:4; Am 9:7).

If we are going to Tarshish and his brothers (Ez 38:13) we see here they are descendants from Javan (Genesis 10:14) which is in turn what is now Greece (Daniel 8:21, 10:20, 11:2-3) and its environs, adding to Italy and Lidia (Ez 30:5). Lidia is now Turkey. To this we add that of all European countries, the descendants of Japheth, is that after conquering America it was populated almost entirely, known today as the Western Hemisphere, and within which is now the most developed and powerful nation on earth: the United States of America...
