Obadiah: like they had not been.

The year 586 BC is in turn supported
as the date of his prophecy, because we also see the fact that the prophet is
announcing the near total destruction of Edom, south of Israel; which were the
descendants of Esau, here as a nation, and originally the brother of Jacob or
Israel (Gn 25:25-26 ).
Since
then it had passed more than 2500 years and as well Obadiah prophesied this
territory ceased to exist as a nation recognized on the world map. Today there
are a lot of ruins in the ghost town of Petra (Edom); nevertheless, families
were preserved to some extent, because five hundred years later we see the king
Herod the Great, an Edomite (Mr 3:8 ), ruling in the Jerusalem during the
time of Christ, who in turn was the one who ordered the murders of all children
under age two in Bethlehem (Mt 2:1-18 ) for fear that the Jewish Messiah
could steal his throne one day. After he died his son, Herod Antipas, was
declared Tetrarch (he is the one who mocked Christ before being crucified).
Later his grandson, Herod Agrippa, is seeing as a kind of local king approved
by the Romans, and before whom appeared the apostle Paul (Acts 12:1-22 );
who also then chased the Christian Church in its origins killing the apostle
James, the brother of the apostle John, and eventually later being eaten by
worms, deservedly. As we see these Idumeans from Herod’s race had much vileness
impregnated in their blood.
