Babylon is trampled by the Medes.

 “Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold… they shall have no pity… their eyes shall not spare…and Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited; neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation.”

(Isaiah 13:17-22; 14:22-23)

The prophet Isaiah prophesies here the future Medo-Persian Empire 200 years before its emergence on the world stage, even calling the Medes by their name (v.17) who were virtually unknown; only as far an unnamed tribe, much less imaginable, capable of one distant day becoming a world empire.

Can a man reveal something like this two hundred years before it happened, if he is not inspired by the Holy Spirit of God? So why then not believe all his prophecies, and not just those that suit us, which do not make us shudder? It is amazing how the world has gone after the vague conclusions––because they cannot be called prophecies, it would be an insult to the true prophets––of Nostradamus together with others astute and cunning pretending visionaries that had walked over the land of the living ones; however, these men of God who never ceased to reveal: the approaching history, the justice of God, the judgment of the nations, and the coming of mankind’s Redeemer, we totally ignore them; while spending time entertained in finding out about the life of the now called ‘Hollywood superstars.’ It is a great pity, and many will remember––late for them––our warnings.

The prophet Isaiah tells us how these Medes shall destroy the Babylonian Empire, which in turn had not yet emerged as such, but 100 years later, from the time of the prophet. The man of God reveals here––clearly and precisely––about Babylon, the capital of the empire that would arise, which at some point would also be occupied and then destroyed forever.

This began to be fulfilled when announced through the mouth of the prophet Daniel––two centuries forward since the time of the prophet Isaiah (Dn 5: 24-31)––Darius the Mede entered into the city of Babylon subjecting it under his authority. Once the Assyrian Empire was conquered, it followed the Babylonian Empire which lasted approximately from 606 to 536 BC; and they were the ones who destroyed Jerusalem, burned the Temple, and took captives from the tribe of Judah and remaining israelites in the year 586 BC.

Once King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon apparently marries Amytus the daughter of Cyaxares the Mede, around 625 BC, it is when the nation of the Medes begin––in partnership with the Babylonians––to occupy a prominent place in history. Cyrus the Persian, seizes the region around 539 BC, and is finally by joining Darius the Mede, who demolished the Babylonian Empire in an unforgettable night where tactical and strategic war maneuvers allowed them to conquer Babylon quickly and in a triumphant way.

The Medo-Persian Empire lasted from 536 to 330 BC when it falls to the unstoppable advance of the Greek Alexander the Great: the Macedonian. It should be understood that these are never very accurate dates for these events––rise and fall of a nation or empire––often are subjected to a process that takes place at least during a decade; while one is declining the other is taking hold, either due to force battles, or for its splendor and development; until the final blow arrives.

It is estimated that the kurds who live in northern Iraq, and demand part of Turkey and Iran, are the direct descendants of the Medes and soon again––as it is happening––will reorganize, apparently also taking part in the coalition of nations that will take place in the final events starting the Third World War; generating in the volatile territory of Israel. Today more than ever we know that this prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled exactly to the letter, because the centuries have passed, and empires have come and gone; nevertheless, Babylon never resurfaced, much less with its splendor, but it has been a pile of ruins and heaps, nest for cattle, ferrets, owls and jackals (v.21-22), when it was then an adorned, vast, beautiful and idolatrous city that disappeared completely––against all predictions of that time when imagined as invincible––from the earth’s face: punished for their pride, arrogance, injustices, paganism and the worshiping of wealth, forgetting the Creator of them.

Today there are other similar Babylons believing themselves as invincibles because of their financial splendor and proudly boast––very loud––while walking in opposite direction to the Creator of all and dreaming to endure forever and ever; but unfortunately they will crumble like a house of cards under the majesty and splendor of men’s Redeemer, when he comes back, fulfilling his scheduled encounter with history.
