The Paschal Lamb.

“This month shall be to you the beginning of months… In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house…Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year… and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening [at twilight].”

(Exodus 12:2-6)

This prophecy we will see it later included in the official ritual––we will not repeat it until Lv 22:20-22, 24––relates directly to 1550 years ahead, about the Lamb of God Jesus Christ (Jn 1:29), who at the time when sacrificed on the Cross of Golgotha was spotless, without blemish, without sins (Heb 7:26); reason why here the lamb representing him had to be devoid of any defects.

It was necessary to sacrifice it in the first Hebrew month of Abib––which represents our April––when the full moon began, which was the today’s equivalent to 14th of that month (12:6, 13:4). Just as it happened millennium and a half later when Christ was nailed to the cross in the month of Abib at Easter and twilight (Mt 27:45-46).

“And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses… and you shall let nothing of it remain until the morning… it is the Lord’s Passover… I will execute judgment… and the blood shall be to you for a token… and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you, when I smite the land.”

Firstly, we cannot ignore and need to understand how the blood was smeared. If you soak the swab and smeared blood on the lintel of the door, which is at the top, and then on the poles on both sides, you are actually doing the sign of the cross, painted with the blood of the Passover lamb. Even in such detail we were prophetically indicated what kind of death would suffer the Lamb of God on the Cross of Golgotha. God then tells the people once in the wilderness, that upon entering the promised land they would only be allowed to celebrate this ceremony at the place he chose there to dwell His name, and this place turned out to be years later Jerusalem; that is to say, the details of where and how it would be killed the Messiah Christ at a certain day, are given to us in all these ceremonies and festivals instituted by God to Israel.

This prophetic ritual––as we see––points to Christ, who is the Passover of Yahweh God (1 Chron 5:7), in sacrifice at the cross, and his blood (12:7) cleanses us from all sin (1 Jn 1:7) becoming children of God (Gal 3:26), and making a difference to those who do not believe in salvation, considering it a myth or a fanatic fantasy; not believing in the Lamb of God, as part of the divine plan (Jn 17:3); and that in Messiah’s blood we were all sealed by faith with the pledge of the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13).

This ritual comprises more time ahead––perhaps 3570 years from that date––when at the End of Time, preceding the Coming of Jesus and while the land would be suffering a terrible period of tribulation ever seen; God will put a sign, here symbolized in the lamb’s blood (12:13), on his chosen ones who believed in the redemptive work of the Lamb-Christ, and thus showing his power as in the time of Egypt’s plagues; when he miraculously shall protect and warn them avoiding to be exterminated (Rev 7:3) while being under a military conflict of global reach, and when his wrath manifests through the celestial trumpets (Rev 11:15-19) by having accumulated so many abominations, ignoring and forgetting the true God who can provide them with eternal peace (Rom 16:20).

In the Book of Revelation is revealed that at the End Times those announced pests and plagues, are just a reflection of the symbolism here represented in the ones executed upon Egypt, and for this reason we will see then the song of Moses showing the victory of his people (15:1-18) next to the song of the Lamb (Rev 15:3) praising the great wonders of the Son of God who had won; also reflecting the two peoples: Christians and Jews together as a whole.

 “…neither shall you break a bone thereof.”

(Exodus 12:46-47)

None of the bones of Christ were broken––even when it was a customary doing on the condemned to death––as a reliable fulfillment of what was prophesied in this chapter, when they decided not to break his legs (Jn 19:31-37). There are many historical evidences and still people ignore these prophecies.

Same happened to Jesus, when the noble senator and council member Joseph of Arimathea who believed in Jesus, went to Pilate and without fear of being ridiculed, asked permission for the Redeemer’s body in order to avoid getting into dawn and still remaining on the cross not duly buried (Mr 15:43-44); in which Pontius Pilate marveled because usually the bodies of the damned resisted longer in those wooden logs of sacrifices,but the Holy Scriptures had to be fulfilled and this ritual was foretelling this from long ago.
